Our Mission

By being a part of Pride Run ATL, you will help us work towards the following:

  1. Fund the work of AID ATLANTA and help local nonprofits provide free HIV/AIDS medical care, testing, and prevention services.

  2. Raise awareness to end the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

  3. Provide a positive, life affirming experience for people affected by HIV/AIDS.

  4. Provide a safe affirming experience for people of all genders, sexual orientations, abilities, and paces.

  5. Grow our community of activists, volunteers, and ambassadors fighting to end AIDS.

  6. Honor those who have passed from AIDS-related causes.

Our History

Our founders, Front Runners Atlanta, was started in 1991 by a group of LGBTQIA+ runners who were seeking a community during the HIV crisis. Due to the hostility toward our community at the time, they had to meet in secret at an Atlanta Library. Their mission was to create friendships and community through running.

That same year, they created the Atlanta Pride Run, the first LGBTQIA+ run in the Southeast, to raise money to help those impacted by HIV.

The Run began in 1991 and was called the “Gay and Lesbian Pride Day Run.”  In 2002, it was rebranded as Atlanta Pride Run. Finally, in 2024, it was rebranded as Pride Run ATL. Since 1991, participants have raised more than $500,000 for the HIV and AIDS-related services in Atlanta.

Every registration means more donations to local charities fighting against HIV and AIDS.

How Your Fundraising Makes An Impact

  • PROGRAMS FOR LGBTQ YOUTH

We provide a safe, brave space where youth can be their true selves! Some of the funds donated go to queer youth-focused programs like the TRANSformation Station at the Pride Run Block Party. This event affirmed beauty for people transitioning and taught them ways to love themselves no matter where they are.

  • IMPROVED HEALTH & WELLNESS

Pride Run ATL offers free HIV/STI testing, PreP education, healthcare insurance navigation, and yoga classes. We partner with other organizations to provide monthly learning opportunities that empower our community to manage their health.

  • BUILDING A BRIGHT FUTURE

To address systemic barriers facing the LGBTQ community, our committee cultivates affirming providers, while the sponsorship team helps local businesses build inclusive policies and systems, solve common LGBTQ athlete-related issues, & maintain legal compliance.
